Free accessibility scanner FAQ
Is the accessibility scan really free?
Yes. Five scans a month, no account and no credit card, and you get the same score, letter grade, and violation list a paid scan returns. The counter resets on the 1st. If five a month isn't enough, Starter is $29/month for 100 scans plus daily monitoring that re-scans your pages and emails you when a new violation appears.
What happens when I use up my five free scans?
The scan is refused until the 1st of the next month, when your five reset at no cost — nothing expires and no card is required to keep using the free tier. Switching browsers or clearing cookies does not reset the count: for visitors without an account we meter free scans per network address, so everyone on one office or shared connection draws from the same five. That is the usual reason a first-time visitor hits the limit immediately, and it's the case Starter's 100 scans a month is priced for.
What does the scanner actually check?
We load your page in a real headless browser and run axe-core against it, the same open-source engine used by Deque and built into browser devtools. That covers WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules — color contrast, missing alt text, form labels, ARIA misuse, heading structure, keyboard focus order, and more.
Does passing this scan mean I'm ADA compliant?
No automated tool can certify ADA compliance. Automated testing reliably catches roughly a third of WCAG issues; the rest need manual review with a keyboard and a screen reader. Treat the scan as the fastest way to find and fix the machine-detectable failures that show up in demand letters first.
How long does a scan take?
Most pages finish in a few seconds. Large pages with heavy JavaScript can take longer because we wait for the page to finish rendering before testing it — the results reflect what a real visitor sees, not just the initial HTML.
Can I scan a page behind a login or a staging URL?
The free scanner only reaches publicly accessible URLs. Authenticated pages, localhost, and IP-restricted staging environments can't be reached by our crawler. Paid plans support scheduled scans of multiple public pages across a site.
Do you store the pages you scan?
We store the scan result — the URL, score, and violation list — so you can revisit the report at its own link. We don't keep a copy of your page's content or take any action on your site.
